Trattenbach Climbing Centre / Via Ferratas Beisteinmauer

Ternberg, Oberösterreich, Österreich

The Trattenbach Climbing Route is part of the "Naturfreunde Climbing Routes Beisteinmauer". It is the easiest way to ascend the upper wall of the Beisteinmauer via the long rope bridge and the spectacular aluminum ladder to the summit. In the upper section, there is an emergency exit to the right.

After warming up on the Feitel climbing route (see topo, this is the best approach to the Mammut climbing route), the Trattenbach climbing route begins with a long suspension bridge (B/C), followed by an aluminum ladder (B). At the end of the ladder, you climb diagonally to the left on the slab (C). You reach a series of clamps (B) that lead to the emergency exit. Directly upwards (C) over slabs and small steps (C) to easier terrain (B and B/C). A gentle ledge (A) leads to the left, and you reach the exit via the final wall (C).

Difficulty: Some sections C, shortly before the exit also easier.

Child-friendly: No

Safety Equipment: Well secured with steel cable and footholds.

Equipment: Complete via ferrata equipment and helmet

Starting Point: Parking lot below the Beistein wall

Approach to the Wall: From the parking lot, ascend the forest road a bit, then turn left towards the practice via ferrata or the Feitel climbing route.

Starting Point Elevation: 470 m

Entry Elevation: 500 m

Descent: From the summit, descend briefly eastward along the ridge, then right down the descent path to the forest road and back to the parking lot. The descent path is briefly B and often A – so keep your via ferrata equipment on until you are off the summit.

Public parking at Trattenbach train station, approx. 20-30 min to the via ferrata.
