Welcome to the largest wilderness area in Austria!

Between the rivers Enns and Steyr, a natural paradise awaits you: The Kalkalpen National Park, the largest contiguous forest area in the country.
The ancient beech forests are a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. Particularly impressive: the oldest beech tree in the entire Alpine region, proudly over 550 years old.

These wild mountain forests, with their diverse habitats, are home to an outstanding richness of animal and plant species. Noteworthy is the high number of "primeval forest species" that can only survive here, in the rugged forests with plenty of dead wood.
With 75% wilderness area, Kalkalpen National Park is unique in Austria and a true paradise for all who seek genuine nature.
